Are we going somewhere dangerous? Daren thought alot about that question as the Phoenix crawled across space towards the planet. He certainly had the time to give it a complete review given that what had taken the Phoenix a few minutes under maximum thrust took them nearly two days under the minimal strain he’d allow on the engines until the repairs were seen to. Even an hour before Andromeda had asked him the question he would’ve said no; sure the planet was a bit rough and what the they were up to was in a very very dark shade of gray area, but it was pretty routine business. But then someone had hacked the Phoenix’s coms to warm him seconds ahead of a nearly fatal ambush by security drones well outside of the financial resources of the local colony government.

That suggested several unpalatable possibilities ranging from his sister being on his trail once again all the way to a rival concern looking to thin out the competition with minimal risk. He wasn’t sure who would've done the latter, he wasn’t a big enough business himself to seriously concern the big galactic arms corporations. Sure he had ambitions and a family name, but the expense and risk of the attempt on his life in such a fashion wasn’t something an interstellar could go around doing for every two bit operator in the galaxy--- or they’d be broke and on the outs with every system government with which they pulled this kind of thing. He doubted even Xenedria would be amused by corporations planting attack drones in its surrounded space and he was hard pressed to say what exactly was illegal there short of pissing off someone rich or important.

All of this thinking really led him exactly nowhere for certain, and didn’t shed any light on who their mysterious ‘do gooder’ had been. He didn’t like that and had become a bit… moody as a result taken to sitting around brooding over how his quiet gravy run while he broke in a new slave had turned into a fresh life of death struggle with a slave who was likely to projectile vomit if he touched her. At the very least his withdrawal into himself gave Penny and Chastity time to explore the concept of their newfound friendship… ‘Pandi’ he’d taken to calling it for short in his head because it gave him a brief flutter of amusement. In fact he remained fairly silent and terse until they landed on the planet below and the Phoenix was being tended to by a small army of robots who crawled all over their hull like insects effecting repairs to its vital systems. All of which brought him to this moment, expecting the imminent arrival of the bitch on the coms.

“Two pulse rifles, plasma pistol, four Mk2 concussive grenades… Ablative combat vest with aim and thread assessment heads up display,” Daren mumbled each item absently as he unpacked the small weapons locker onboard the Phoenix. By long drilled force of habit onboard a slaver ship he didn’t believe in carrying a lot of weapons around the inside of a ship-- firing a powerful weapon inside of a spaceship was an extremely dangerous thing to do for one thing, for another no one wanted to compound a slave revolt or mutiny with laser weaponry; so the vast majority of them intended for personal use by he and Pandora were kept here securely locked away. Except for the Ripper he and Pandora had put together to replace the one that had taken out York.

The small bed that served as a ‘treatment’ couch for the small medical unit they had onboard was now covered with weapons and equipment for the ‘meeting,’ due to occur at almost any minute. He glanced and Pandora and Andromeda… both of whom he’d insisted be here while he did this; the former to gear up and the latter to make sure she understood what was going on. This was potentially dangerous. He pulled out a second vest and pushed it towards Andromeda, “Watch how Penny puts hers on and try your best… Penny check to make sure she’s got it right.”

While that was going on Daren set about giving the rifles a once over and loaded the pulse rifle double checking that it charged appropriately and then set it aside. The plasma rifle he left uncharged but slapped an empty power pack into it anyway...it certainly looked loaded. Then he shrugged into his own combat armor which he wore underneath his every present jacket making him look even larger than he normally did.

“Now I don’t really know what to expect here. For all I know ‘warning’ me was just a ploy to make sure they had a second shot in case the ambush failed. So, Penny I want you to meet her at the airlock your instincts and training will give you a better feel if something’s about to go down; don’t frisk her, but if she’s not alone get clear and lock down the outer door.” He handed Penny the pulse rifle, one of the pistols, and a couple of the grenades. High explosive grenades would’ve been of more use in a fight… but they also would’ve blown up parts of the ship and in the tight confines they were going to be fighting in if it came that way… probably them too. The Mk2 had been designed for boarding actions to stun defenders for those critical moments for the invaders to find a stable position. “We’ll have the meeting right out here in the common area, when she’s in I want you to position yourself along this wall where you can draw a bead on anyone who tries to sneak in behind her through the air lock… Chastity and I will be here… “

With that he handed Chastity the massive, scary looking, and completely unloaded plasma rifle. “You’ll take up position behind the food prep and try to look… angry… or something. If the shooting starts just get down behind the counter, you aren’t trained for this. But it’s just possible that having a weapon capable of vaporizing her into slime and steam might make our guest more reasonable.”

As for himself he strapped the second of the pistols to his opposite leg, stuck the other pair of grenades into his jacket pockets, and fired up the big magnets that powered the slug throwing hand cannon on his hip. He looked up as a chime sounded through the ship.

“I believe that’s our guest now,” he said as he turned to lock up the storage locker securely, “position ladies, let’s not die today, hmm?”

The treatment couch had never looked more appealing as a location for sex. It didn't even HAVE to be Daren. It was THAT sexy to see it covered in all those lovely weapons. Pandora ran her fingers across the pulse rifle as if it were a lover long parted from her. Her face had taken on a serene contentment ever since laying eyes on those weapons, and knowing that she was to be armed up with some of them.

She sighed softly with joy, and some degree of arousal, as she was ordered to arm herself. Her actions from then on reflected none of that dreamy distraction, however. That was all well practiced, efficient, care and precision as she donned the vest, adjusting the straps to ensure it fit her perfectly and would not impede any movement, as much as possible, while checking it was sitting right to cover all the essential locations, and in full functioning order. She glanced at Andi, astounded by the revelation that she didn't know how to put a combat vest on. But they were going to be friends. So that meant she shouldn't mock her, she thought, unless it would help keep her safe if she did. Nah. She would just help her, just as she would want to be helped in this sort of thing.

She watched Andi put her vest on, and talked her through it, "Touch here to make sure it is covering the crease in your arm. Now lift your arm above your head, then stretch across your chest, and adjust this strap to give you as full a range of motion as possible." When she had done that, she explained how to check it now, to make sure it was covering the important areas again. She continued with it, taking much longer with Andi than she had for herself, as she had to explain and check it so much when she had done it so automatically for herself.

She took the weapons from Daren, her eyes shiny with unshed tears. "Thank you, Master." With each one she swiftly opened the slide to check the battery level, and reactivated the trigger safety just to be sure, before holstering it sightlessly. There was a palpable change in her demeanour as the weapons were on her person, both more relaxed and alert at the same time. Her posture was quasi-military as she listened to her orders and she had to resist saying 'Sir yes sir,' in response, catching herself at the last moment. "Yes, Master. On it."

She spared Andi a pitiful glance, feeling bad for her new soon to be friend at having a weapon that didn't even work only. That would suck so bad, though she agreed with Daren's decision to arm Chastity that way, considering her lack of skill and the risks entailed. She just wished for her that she didn't have said lack of skill.

She moved off with a grim, determined expression when Daren told her to. She did not allow her curiosity about the woman she was to greet to cloud her perception, staying utterly focused on making sure that their guest came alone. Pandora took her time, but was in no way slow, just careful and methodical in checking that there was only person, and that no one was hidden ready to take a shot at them from any vantage points outside.

She was alone. Pandora was sure of it when she allowed her to enter the airlock. She desperately wanted to frisk her, but she had her orders. She greeted the woman with a nod and said nothing by way of greeting, unless she spoke to her.

Once the warm welcome (a nod) was done, she nodded her head back towards the common area, wanting Autumn to go first. Pandora quickly but carefully sealed the airlock again, taking another look at the sensors and out the viewer to make sure no one was there, and then followed the guest closely, watching her like a hawk for any sudden moves she might make.

She directed Autumn back to the common area, moving herself over to the wall as Daren had ordered her to do, and standing vigilant and ready if any shit went down.

Autumn did not consider herself in anyway ‘normal’ or ‘average;’ she was right to think that. Standing at a hair’s breadth short of six feet tall with the kind of naturally athletic build that gave her every movement the rolling gate of a prowling jungle cat even at a glance she tended to draw the eye. Her auburn hair was left loose and tended to flow wildly about her head down to her shoulders framing a face that could be used to teach lessons in symmetry to plastic surgeons and eyes of intense green that fluctuate between bright mischief and a dangerous warning. Her knee high boots added several completely unrequired inches to her height making her loom over most people in a way that was off putting for some when interacting with a human female-- she enjoyed that and her clothing appeared custom picked to emphasize her every curve and offered glimpses of flesh veiling her in a kind of sensual promise. A full length coat finished the ensemble that hung open… and she seemed to have that instinctual feel for how to make it move with her when she was looking to make a flourish.

No, Autumn was not normal, she was exceptional; she was a Ridgeway afterall. Not only had she survived the same juvenile in fighting as her uncle, but it was not uncommon for women of the family to undergo genetic testing of the unborn to insure only offspring of the greatest potential were able to join the family. Her testing and proving had started in the womb. So when a Ridgeway acted as if they were superior to Joe Average on the street… it was because they manifestly were by virtue of breeding, intelligence, ruthlessness, training and generations of ruthless self serving lords of interstellar business. It just so happened that she was the second member of their family to run afoul of her mother, the same woman who had been behind Daren’s own exile decades ago.

Her journey here hadn’t been easy. Daren was a man who’d been avoiding the attention of a woman with the resources of the Cartel behind her--- resources that Autumn no longer had. But she did have ruthless persistence, skills, and no real morals to speak of. In the end that was almost as good and once she had finally pegged this planet as a known port of call for her uncle it had been rather easy to ‘tip off’ the family back home through intermediaries and set him up for that attack. Of course she hadn’t wanted it to succeed, but she knew after viewing his entire family as an enemy for twenty years he was going to need a reason to extend her a little trust. She needed that trust if she hoped to work for him.

The first sight of the Phoenix did not fill her with an overabundance of confidence. It had been damaged by the encounter she had set into motion--- had her warning been slightly later in coming she wasn’t sure from the look of things that the ship would’ve survived at all. Avoiding a few passing repair drones she managed to reach the entry ramp and ping the vessel with her com to announce her presence. Then settled down to wait.. Semi-patiently.

She hadn’t really known what kind of crew Daren was running with at the moment, though it couldn’t have been a large one from the size of the ship, but Pandora certainly wasn’t what she’d anticipated with the hatch finally opened. She glanced down at the shorter, skinny, frowning girl for a moment and her sour expression could only be answered by one of her ilk in a single way.

“Well you must be public relations... obviously...” She resisted the urge to reach out and pinch the girl’s cheek, perhaps sensing that it would be unwise---or maybe the comfortable way she carried that pulse rifle filled in the blanks nicely. “I’m here to see Daren Ridgeway. I trust he is here as scheduled?”

Her life had taken a turn that Andi had never expected. And it wasn't the belt she wore, vibrating on and off through the day and night, and it wasn't the thought of being used by her master, or living in space. This was a new danger. A danger of explosive traps left for them in space, and of frantic, evasive flights which left her strapped to a sofa while heavy and sharp projectiles flew through the air around her. A danger which now meant weapons being spread around the common room, and a combat vest being pushed at her. What was about to happen that Daren thought his dancer might be shot at? She wished he'd decided to lock her safely in her room, but apparently she was wanted at his side. She couldn't believe she would actually be needed in what looked like it was going to be a small scale war onboard. She did her best to put the unfamiliar garment on. Fortunately costume changes were something within her sphere of experience, and with Penny as an example, she was able to pull the vest on and do the straps well enough that it didn't fall back off her.
She was more than a little disturbed as how aroused Penny seemed by this whole affair. Still, Penny knew more about fighting than she did, so Andi stood and followed the other girls instructions without a complaint, adjusting her vest until it was snug, and would be effective in the event of shooting in her direction. 'Like this? How's that?' she asked the other slave, knowing that her voice was tight with fear, but unable to do anything about that. She didn't want to be in a fight. One brush with death a day was more than enough.

Overwhelmed, wishing she'd been to the bathroom before strapping into her vest, Andi listened to Daren assemble weapons and snap instructions at Penny, who seemed to be relishing every second of this. They seemed to have it all in hand, and she wondered again why they needed her at all. Why wasn't Daren sending her somewhere out of the way. She squeaked with fright when he actually handed her a giant weapon, her hands pulling away automatically. It took a few very long seconds of battling with herself before she recalled her place, and reached to take the rifle, hands shaking. 'Vaporising...' she echoed uselessly, staring in growing horror at the thing she held. Where was the trigger? She held the gun gingerly, not wanting to touch anything that might make it fire. 'Master... shouldn't Penny have this?' At least she had orders to hide if actual shooting started. Orders that she planned on taking full advantage of.

The chime that sounded through the ship made her squeak with fright and Awkwardly scuttle away to shelter behind the food prep area, looking very much like she was trying not to drop her weapon.

Daren and Pandora had taken quite the journey where weapons were concerned. Considering how they’d met originally the only thing more surprising than that she was now Daren’s adoring slave was that he ever trusted her with anything more dangerous than a plastic spork. But to make the most use of her skills he’d simply had to get over it once he’d been convinced enough that she really was devoted to him now. That had taken time and the process hadn’t really been complete until she’d killed York… it had been a final act of… transition he supposed and he knew there was nothing left that really stood between them. Sure the possibility existed that she could turn on him, the same as anyone, but he didn’t think it was likely and the fact was he needed someone to watch his back and she’d proven she was capable of doing that several times over.

That didn’t let him ease up on his restrictions about shipboard weaponry, but when meeting clients, traveling outside the ship, or walking across planets he was unfamiliar with it just made sense to arm up. He did enjoy how excited she got about the whole thing--- so long as this didn’t go pear shaped it promised some rather energetic sex later. Which at least gave something to look forward to once the business end of things were done. He spent a couple of moments longer than was strictly required watching the two very different slaves suit up and then gave Penny a quick slap on the butt as she headed towards the door before falling in behind the scurrying Andromeda towards the common room prep area.

“No Chastity,” he said finally, “What you have there is what’s known as a ‘spray and pray’ weapon. Meaning it’s not very accurate, you just kind of point, pull the trigger until whatever you’re pointing it at simply--- isn’t anymore. Here,” he reached down and gripped underneath the large weapon and set the barrel on top of the counter which gave her more control over the weapon by taking a good deal of the weight. “Penny has the pulse rifle because it’s a precision weapon that requires accurate firing which I know she’s capable of. All you have to do with this is point it and hold it steady on that door and then duck if things go wonky.”

Wonky. Sure that was a perfectly acceptable word for a firefight within the tight confines of the Phoenix. It was unlikely that any of them would walk out of it in that circumstance unless Penny was able to identify the threat at the door and engage the lockdown procedure. Then it would just be a matter of hoping that dock security was a priority on this planet as it should be everywhere… without a reasonable provision for that traders were very unlikely to make many calls on your planet. But still, some planets were more cable in that regard than others.

Maybe it was just the weaponry on her person, but Pan felt a sudden and strong attraction to Autumn that she couldn't quite put her finger on. She was not her usual type, in women. Pan usually much preferred the softer, less capable types, that she could easily bend to her will, and make them scream and beg for mercy. More like Chastity and the Cunt, really. But there was something in Autumn that drew Pandora to her, like a moth to a flame, and she found it hard not to stare at her like an idiot, and not even looking to make sure she didn't draw a weapon, rather than just gawping at the swell of her breasts so tantalisingly revealed just so, not too much, and not too little to be very appealing and make Pan want to see more, the flow of her long coat, and hair, and her sexy boots. She was taller than Pandora by at least 5 inches, maybe more, and the smaller girl avoided meeting her gaze so she wouldn't look weak by having to look up at her.

The question threw her, and she missed the fact that it was probably rhetorical, and almost certainly sarcastic. "Nah, I'm not public relations." If anyone had that role it would be Chastity, with her easy social manner, and her dancing to impress potential customers. Pandora screwed up her face in confusion, unsure why Autumn would think she was public relations when she was covered in so many weapons. Probably just because she was the one to meet her at the door, she supposed.

"I'm just taking you through to meet with the Captain." She pointed her head again in the direction she wanted Autumn to go. In a lower voice she added, "And I've got my eye on you, whoever you are. So no sudden moves, or they will be your last." To emphasise her point she rested her hand easily on her pulse rifle, and drew back the slider again, letting it hum to show it was fully charged and ready to blow a massive hole in her if she did anything to displease Pandora.

Pandora tensed and her scowl became a deathly glare when Autumn spoke Daren's full name. How the HELL did this chick know him and his name? And why had she warned them? Or was she the one behind the whole thing, and now that the drones hadn't killed them she was here to finish the job.

Rather than confirm his identity, in case Autumn was just fishing for information, she nudged her rifle in the direction she wanted the other woman to go. "Just move that way, if your impractical heeled boots allow you to, would you?" She loved the boots really, but they were not really suited to moving fast and combat situations. And there was so much flesh showing that clearly Autumn was not wearing a proper combat vest either. She moved like one who knew how to handle themselves though, and Pandora had a sudden thought about whether or not she would even be able to beat her in a fair fight. Thankfully, Pandora was not interested in fighting right now, and if she did, it sure as hell would not be fair. She would do anything dirty or clean to keep Daren safe from harm.

"Captain's waiting for you. Less chit chat."

Once she 'deposited' Autumn where she was meant to, Pandora took her own position, and then watched the situation unfold between Daren and his niece (not that she knew that was the connection between them). She was hyper vigilant about his safety, and more than willing to be the one to shoot first, ask questions later, if she had to.

Autumn’s eyebrows rose above her expressive eyes, made more so by the copious amounts of dark eyeliner that had been applied, as her quip sailed over the sour woman’s head. She was far too pretty to be so sour she decided, so she would have to make that a personal challenge to make her laugh. As things progressed she realized that was not likely to be the easiest of challenges as all of that assumed her Uncle was open to employing her in the first place and in the second that her intel was juicy enough to overcome the… apparent paranoia on this vessel. Then again she supposed she might be a bit twitchy herself had she had the experiences of being hunted by the family that he did. Then in a slightly disturbing thought she realized she was about to sign up for the same.

You’re far too pretty to frown so much my dear, you’re going to ruin your skin. And then what?” she said ignoring the instruction to stifle but otherwise making no sudden moves and walking with cool confidence through the ship as though she owned it. Her eyes drifted around never looking directly at Pandora again yet as experienced a person as she would notice how Autumn always kept her in her field of vision though an act of body positioning magic. “Then you’ll be a sour faced woman holding a gun… and whatever fun will that be?”

She paused and glanced back towards Pandora as they stepped into the main cabin where Daren and Andromeda were waiting and sighed slightly when she saw what seemed to her an almost redoubled frown, “Oh never mind...pity though.. “

“Ah, Ridgeway,” she said suddenly behaving as though Pandora wasn’t there at all and took a couple of long legged strides into the room finally realizing there was a position she was supposed to stand which she did so with such an obvious act of forced grace that it bordered on the farcical. “Cute girl you have there answering your door… but I don’t know whether to spank her for her lip or buy her a cookie before her face implodes from frowning.”

She spent a few moments stripping her gloves off and clutched them in one hand, and then gently touched the edges of her coat and opened it up revealing more of her… expressive outfit, but also that she wasn’t hiding anything in the way of weaponry that was visible. In truth she did have a hold out sized pistol in each boot as well as a blade tied to her right wrist but a girl couldn’t be too careful, right?

“So, you survived the drones,” she said as her full lips pulled up into a mischievous little smile, “I bet Wendy wasn’t expecting that now was she?”

Spray and pray? That didn't make any sense. Why would Daren give her a weapon that put himself and Penny in as much danger as any enemy, if she used it? She stood awkwardly as he adjusted both her and the weapon. She kept her grip on it mostly because she was too terrified of what might happen if she dropped it on the floor. Would it go off and spray the room with ... whatever guns sprayed? She nodded, pale and shaky. Point at the door, and duck if things went wrong. 'I don't... I won't have to... shoot it, Master?' There was no mistaking the relief in her voice, 'It won't... ah... spray on it's own?'

The sight of the woman who was their "guest" had her gaping slightly. She was tall, and stunning, and looked every bit as dangerous as Penny and Daren were. Andi wondered what in the world SHE was doing here, so out of place in this world. A dancer, for heavens sake. She tightened her grip on her weapon and tried to look... not dangerous, that was too much of a stretch, but at least less like a frightened little prey animal.

Whoever the woman was, she seemed to know Daren. Was that a good thing? A bad thing? Well, that was Daren's problem to work out, right? Andi had one job, and only one job, and that was to hold her gun and look tough. She fixed her expression (a little late, now that Autumn was actually IN the room), into a scowl in her best imitation of Penny.

Daren smirked. He was highly amused at the concept of Andromeda holding something that randomly fired off on its own, “Chastity, you’re pretty but not that pretty.”

He reached over then and adjusted the lean of the weapon to face more directly towards the entrance and then picked his head up a bit at the muffled sounds of talking coming from the entryway. He wondered if he ought to tell her that there was literally no chance of this weapon firing at all, given how nervous she obviously was but there just wasn’t time anymore. So instead he gave her a quick squeeze on the arm of reassurance and then positioned himself by leaning… casually against the front of the counter facing the door.

Daren wasn’t sure exactly what he’d been expecting but the volume of chatter coming down the corridor from the airlock certainly wasn’t it. And he certainly wasn’t expecting some kind of space amazon in desperate need of a comb to walk into his ship like she owned the place and speak to him like they knew each other! Still… the hand he lifted to rub at his jaw was partly to hide his lips so Pandora didn’t realize just how funny he found the woman’s remarks. It would’ve hurt her feelings terribly if he laughed out loud at her right now so he just took a moment behind that hand as though he were composing his thoughts.

“She has many uses. And really enjoys killing things… perhaps even a bit too much so I’d watch yourself in giving her too many reasons to disobey orders when I’m not paying attention… like I might be after this meeting for example?”
He tilted his head to one side a bit to judge how that went over and then was assaulted with how well informed this stranger was. She knew him, his family issues, and even that it was his sister who had most likely planned that little trap for him. It would’ve been wiser to have a cruiser waiting for him sure, but a lot more difficult to explain to the locals afterward. Planetary governments tended to be funny about battles being fought in their gravity wells.

“You seem awfully eager to drop names to prove to me you know something. Maybe you should skip trying to prove to me how smart you think you are and move directly to why you went so far out of your way to schedule this meeting.” The woman had to want something, or think she had something to offer. Originally he’d suspected she’d figured out about his sister and was going to try to sell that information to him, but she’d ruined any chance of that by name dropping so early in the game. So it had to be something else. “Good place to start would be that since you know my name… who the fuck are you?”

Pretty? This strange, oddly attractive woman, was calling Pandora PRETTY? The compliment made her both blush with pleasure and pride, as well as bristle more like an echidna.

"This is just my face, what it always looks like. And besides, frowning doesn't ruin the skin. Face full of acid, now THAT would ruin even your pretty looks." She didn't mean to be so threatening, it was just a fall back response when she was unsure, confused, worried, or out of her depth, which seemed to be her life lately and the somewhat flirtatious responses from Autumn were making her very much discombobulated.

Her admiration for Autumn increased with each step they took. The way she kept Pan in her field of vision, but also kept herself clear to be aware of other threats, was spot on. Pan wished she was as tall as this other human woman; life would be so much better to have that physical edge and perspective of being all the way up there.

Pandora shrugged, making a scoffing sound, "Always fun to be the one holding the gun. Can make people do whatever you want, no matter what happens to your face, if you're the one armed and they're not."

Pandora was not insulted by the fact that Autumn ignored her to focus on Daren. That was as it should be. She took her place, and was feeling more settled and focused after her somewhat confusing and difficult conversation walking from the airlock, when she gasped, and coughed, and nearly choked on hearing what Autumn said about spanking her or giving her a cookie! How did she KNOW she liked being spanked? Did she have a hidden camera on board their ship and she was spying on them? Is that why she knew to warn them? The image of her being bent over those long, shapely, feminine legs and given a sexy spanking, made her whole face flush a deep scarlet, and she looked like she was ten years younger than she usually did, and in NO way the intimidating, life taking killer look she was going for moments before. And she called her CUTE! Normally she would HATE being called cute, but somehow, from this woman, it was...

"I'm so not cute!" she complained, though it sounded petulant and odd from her, and probably made her attraction to Autumn even clearer.

She shifted her angle, pretending to herself that it was to get a look at whether Autumn was armed, and with what, when really it was to perve on that sexy body as Autumn's coat seemed to almost magically shift back to reveal more of her. Pandora's jaw had dropped open, and she looked pretty silly, all in all. One glance at Andi showed that the dancer was managing to look tough better than the assassin armed with actual functioning weapons.

Then it was Daren's turn to insult Pandora, and it took all her love for him, and all her limited self control not to shout out her indignance at his words. She had excellent discipline. No one would die at her hands unless it was under orders for her to kill them! She didn't 'enjoy' killing, it was a calling, a purpose, her one and only function in life until relatively recently with Daren, the only reason York had allowed her to continue drawing breath. But she didn't just kill people like a crazy person for the fun of it! How DARE he!

She tried to reason that he just wanted Autumn to think she was a threat to her, to seem tough. Surely he knew she was better behaved than that? An assassin who just killed for laughs was a danger not to be borne, as far as York had been concerned, and he had beaten in to her the consequences of doing ANY killing he had not sanctioned. Ever. But her mind went back to Daren assuming she had killed that 'meat man' even though he was a nobody, and she was sure Daren just did not get her at all. She wanted to shout and scream and smash things, but she held on to her temper, barely, just shaking with it, the slightest thing might tip her over the edge. She gave Andi a plaintive look, hoping against hope that the other slave would magically know what was wrong and give her something, anything to hold on to, so she wouldn't fuck this whole thing up for her master. He might not forgive her for that.

Who the fuck was Wendy? Did she know that name? She thought about it, and assumed it must be Daren's sister, the one that hired York to go kill Daren, sending her. But how did Autumn know about Daren's family situation? And was it true? Did his sister just try another way to kill them, and they managed to just escape by the skin of their teeth? If so, how long would it take for her to be successful? They couldn't just sit around and hope to survive every time. Eventually, someone was going to get lucky, and they were going to get dead.

She waited with baited breath to hear what her name was, ready to use force to get it out of her if Daren ordered it. See, Daren, ordered it, not just random torturing it out of her for shits and giggles? She humphed softly, grumpy as all hell, despite the lovely reassurance of the weight of weapons adorning her. Probably malfunctioning and even though they looked loaded, he probably rigged hers so it wouldn't fire either, like Chastity's.

“Why thank you,” Autumn chuckled softly. Whether Pan realized it or not she’d returned the woman’s comment with some interest, albeit in an unconventional way, by suggesting that not only was Autumn more attractive than “pretty” but that it would take extreme measures to mar them. Of course Autumn was also chuckling because she’d obviously gotten under the other woman’s skin and she just adored doing that to people. Needling, poking, and the like all designed to keep them as off balance as possible and give her just a slight edge. “Don’t be silly of course you are. Why with a nice dress cut just right maybe some ribbon in your hair and something more fun for you to do with that mouth…”

She shrugged as her eyes… looking green one moment and then blue as the light struck them from a different angle, swept around the open area they had entered and studied both Daren with his false casual stance that somehow left his hand able to slide down to his weapon in about half a second and the second pretty girl standing behind the counter looking like she was almost as afraid of the weapon as anything else that might happen. Who had her uncle surrounded himself with… a psycho sourpuss and she wasn’t sure what. Finally she gestured towards Andromeda and the odd expression that had suddenly molded itself to her face like she was... constipated? "Is she alright?"

Whatever the reaction Pandora might have had to Daren’s warning it did seem to make Autumn tense for just a moment; that certainly wasn’t the way she wanted this meeting to go and despite the weapons she hadn’t fully pegged the girl as a heavy--- probably because of the distraction of the banter being exchanged between them. She’d put so much energy into appearing in control of this situation that she hadn’t even worried about the possibility that her long lost uncle and his band of...whatevers… might decide to toss her body in a recycle bin before she even had a chance to make her pitch. And so as pretty girls the universe over have done for the entirety of human history when faced with things not going her way--- a move that must be perfected in the womb, she stuck out her bottom lip and pouted. Somehow prettily.

She spared a glance over towards Pandora while she still had her coat open and almost joined Daren in laughing an effect for her that just sent her eyes dancing merrily as if the recipient of some kind of special joke told only to her. She debated actually turning towards Pandora and giving her an even more complete look than she could have gotten from that ankle but not knowing the dynamics of the crew yet that would probably have been rude. So she let the hem of the coat fall limply back down around her body and refocused her attention on the one who’d just made the treat she had to take seriously. Time to play the first of her cards...

“I’m hurt. You don’t recognize me? And here I’ve come such a very very long way to find you,” the pout was affected of course as it was shown to be when those lips twitched upwards into a wide easy smile that seemed… curiously familiar. “My name is Autumn and I’ve been looking for you for several months… you’re not an easy man to pin down Uncle.”

Totally out of her depth, and now feeling that perhaps her attempt to look as scary as Penny did was backfiring, as the newest scary person on the ship looked at her with more concern for Andi's wellbeing than fear of her, and asked if she was aright. Daren's last comment had left her blushing as realisation broke through confusion far too late for any kind of comeback, and as a result she was feeling even more unsettled than she might otherwise have felt. There wasn't much she could do though, other than grip her weapon, try not to shake too much or be ill, and pay attention. She didn't even feel confident in her ability to growl out a tough sounding, "I'm fine." No. Better to be silent and maybe try to tone down the aggressive facial expression she was apparently failing at.

They were all speaking in a way that was far too jovial and flippant for Andi's liking. She felt almost outraged, as though once this many guns appeared, people should take things seriously. Was she the only person on the ship who wasn't insane?

Uncle? He was her uncle? With anyone else she might have just suspected they were throwing out the term without much actual meaning, but in Daren's case, who else would it be but someone from his actual family. Here to kill him? But she'd warned them about the attack, right? Unless that was a ruse to get onto the ship. In either case, there wasn't much she could do about it. Daren's safety was really his own lookout, and Penny's too, she supposed. Still, she couldn't help but be immediately interested in actually seeing a member of his infamous family. It wasn't disappointing at all.

If Pandora’s gobsmacked reaction to Autumn’s general appearance annoyed Daren, he’d lost all ability to comment much on his bodyguard/assassin adopting a tongue out bulging eyed reaction by what the young woman actually said. The reason for this because Daren looked like he’d been struck between the eyes by a crowbar himself at her claim to be his niece; after Kyla’s revelation family appeared to be falling out of the sky all around him. Of course there was no way for him to really know, but there was something about the set of her mouth, the way she made motions with her hands when she talked that just screamed that they’d spent their youth around the same set of elders who eagerly waited to see which of their young would prove up to the challenge of running the family business.

“How would I recognize you… assuming you actually are Autumn. You’d barely been born when your mother hired local goons to knife me in the bathroom of a bar.” He’d never killed anyone before… oh he’d gotten into the odd fight, but most of his training had been voluntary and exercise just basic hand to hand combat. He’d been strong even then, but they were the kind of muscles you got from working out in a gym not from hard use. That had changed in the intervening years, but that initial experience had been a brutal introductions--- he’d never admit it but sometimes at night he was still visited by the vision of that man’s head after he’d bashed it against the sink until it split open in an act of survival fueled desperation.

If he planned on commenting on the rest of the general banter in the room all of this had cut it short. Maybe he’d bring it up with Pandora later, but for now he was completely sidetracked and her outburst seemed to have passed unremarked. But at least he did have the satisfaction of seeing Autumn herself appear slightly unsettled about the not so subtle threat he’d leveled at her as well. Yes, he did have a pet psycho and he wasn’t afraid to use her if he needed to; that Pandora’s feather’s might have been ruffled wasn’t something he immediately picked up on for the same reasons as he overlooked the way she was talking to someone who was technically his guest.

“I suppose the next question then is why I shouldn’t have Penny shoot you right now then. You understand my relationship with the family. I suppose that means you’d have to be a complete fool to come here and pretend to be my niece, so let’s presume for the moment I believe you though if you want another conversation like this in the future… leave a hair for analysis.”

He drew a breath then, the very act of talking it restoring his mask of complete and total control. It wasn’t often that Daren could be surprised, even when he was the times when he would look or act surprised were extremely rare. It made him look like everything was just something he planned (when the truth was his life was a series of narrowly averted disaster.) That tendency to always appear to know more than he did was one of the more annoying things about Daren when it came right down to it; but could be reassuring if you were along for the ride on one of his mad adventures. At the moment more than a little sarcasm dripped from his lips as he continued to speak, “So before I tearfully hug you and we ‘catch up’. Why don’t you tell me the why of you being here, hmm?”

A ribbon in her hair? Was this woman for real? She was a tough assassin, not a five year old girl. Autumn's next words stole any retort from her lips, though, as she made a clear sexual comment about other uses for her mouth, and for once even Pandora got her meaning. Perhaps because she'd been imagining such things ever since she laid eyes on Autumn, and felt that strange and intense attraction to her.

So Pandora just gaped like a goldfish some more, and stood where she was supposed to stand, ready and willing to do whatever she had to, but otherwise rather discombobulated. Autumn's pouting should have been annoying to her. It was when other women did it. But all she wanted to do was bite that pouting lip, and not in a purely causing her pain sort of way, though a bit of that would be fun too. More in a tumble of lips and tongues and hands exploring under that coat and...get it together, Pandora! For fuck's sake!

That smile made her heart beat harder. She knew that smile anywhere. It was one that haunted her dreams with her killing Daren and regretting it forever, and filled her day dreams too, with his sexy hot face. So she was not all that surprised when moments later she revealed she was his niece. Before the smile it would have been a colossal shock, though. No wonder she was so attracted to Autumn; on some level she had reminded Pandora of her beloved Master, even if she hadn't been consciously aware of the similarities that drew her to the woman who was far more powerful and controlling than her usual female type.

The revelation of the association made her fully back on guard. She may behave like an idiot at times, but she was far too professional to leave Daren at risk of actual harm. She was doubly on guard, ready to kill this woman and leave nothing but a mist of her blood and muscle tissue clouded on the wall behind her, if she even made a hint of moving against her Master. He might hesitate to kill a niece, she was not sure what all those familial relationships might mean to him. He'd been weird about his own offspring, after all. Going off on a costly search for the brat, even though she was only the child of a slave. Might not have even been his, though it turned out she was. But still, he couldn't have known for sure. And if he hesitated with Autumn, it might be his last mistake. This woman had a way about her that showed she knew what she was doing in a combat situation.

Daren revealed even more controversy, that Autumn was the child of THAT sister that had tried to kill him. What if she was working for her mother? Pandora tensed, ready and willing to kill her dead where she stood, and never doubt her decision for a moment. She waited for a signal or order from Daren, and Autumn might feel the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, as she really was staring death down as Pandora waited to be directed to end her life right here and now.

Pandora struggled with understanding emotions, her own and those of others, and Daren was displaying some complex ones right now. None of them were a clear kill order though, and she had strict orders, and would obey those resolutely, for just as she boasted, she had never killed anyone unless it was under orders.

She waited with baited breath to see what would happen next.

This was all not going quite as Autumn had imagined it in her head. She hadn’t pictured a tearful reunion of long lost family in quite the way Daren had heaped scorn on just now, but she’d anticipated something. Maybe it had just been being in a bit more control of the situation than she was right now. She still had cards to play of course but all of this seemed to be quickly sliding out of her control and she didn’t like that one bit; she needed Daren to see her as capable a potential partner, junior perhaps but a peer. Instead her attempts to fluster him with the revelation of her identity had been turned around and used against her in much the same way. Now instead she was in the position of having to defend herself and her very presence here while two guns were trained on her.

What was clear was that she needed to regain control of the situation or she was going to end up tossed out on her ass in the best case scenario; having her ass mopped off the floor plating was the worst. “Well it wouldn’t be a Ridgeway family reunion without casual threats of repercussions. Besides, we’re not really ‘huggers’ are we?”

Her lips made a somewhat sardonic twist and her stance slightly adjusted. More relaxed and less overtly vampy than it had been before. It was a calculated attempt to appear slightly less threatening since her original play had quite nearly backfired on her. She glanced over at Pandora for a moment before speaking again--- the one who’d been identified as the trigger happy one… before she started speaking though some of her words were still directed at Daren himself.

“You want to know why I’m here. I have an opportunity that I think you’ll be interested in, there’s a datachip in the inside pocket of my jacket…,” she moved then with pretty elaborate slow deliberate movements then widening her arms to make her jacket come open a bit again and then slowly moving a hand towards her jacket and just as slowly removed it again holding a small thin chip between two of her long slender fingers that was about the size of a matchbook. She then extended the arm towards Pandora for her to take the chip rather than making any movement in Daren’s direction. And then to completely ruin the whole thing she puckered her lips, whistling, and wiggled the fingers in Pan’s direction, “Fetch?”

There seemed to be a lot of talking that was neither a negotiation to lower weapons, or (thankfully) an order to kill. Instead it was all careful politeness, veiled insults and verbal banter to vie for points scored against one another. Like any other social event, but with naked weapons. Andi kept silent, knowing her voice would shake if she tried to speak, and sure that it wasn't her place anyway. This was between her master and his niece and she had no idea at all how it might play out, or what affect this was going to have on Daren in the future.

Her eyes were fixed on Autumn's hand, in a way that would have been very useful if she'd had any skill at all in tense combat situations, or in firing the gun she held (or if said gun had been loaded), and she let out a sigh of relief that would have been able to be heard by everyone person in the cabin, when the tall woman pulled out a datachip as promised, and not a weapon. It had occurred to her only after Autumn had begun to reach, that someone desperate enough, with people to support, might consider offering their services to Daren's sister as an assassin against her pesky younger brother. Come in, pretend to be his niece just long enough to intrigue, promise a datachip, and instead pull some kind of explosive that would kill the lot of them. She doubted that even Penny and Daren's impressive skillset would be a match against that. Someone desperate enough might sacrifice themselves in exchange for their family being cares for by the Ridgeway family for the rest of their lives. Luckily, it had actually been a datachip though, an Andi didn't think her loud sigh of relief was out of place.

Daren wasn’t oblivious to the same worries that Andromeda was having, but anyone going to try something like that surely wouldn’t have needed to pull something out to activate it in the first place… just activated it as soon as she’d seen him. Still it could’ve been a weapon or anything else which is why his own fingers twitched and he had to resist the impulse to draw his weapon, because if he did things would probably have gotten very messy. He wouldn’t have been upset really, so long as the three of them made it out of that alright, but it would’ve been an end to his one connection regarding what had happened--- and likely is chances of learning why she’d gone to this trouble and risk of tracking him down.

He’d only seen Autumn once as a baby. Just shortly after she’d been born and just before he’d left for the short vacation with Wendy and older brother Robert. She’d been a red faced and fussy shit factory as he recalled, the next few minutes would at least dictate if that last had just been a phase or if she was still full of it. She obviously wasn’t any wiser or she wouldn’t keep goading Pandora in that way, but he had to admit… it did take some nerve to remain that collected in the phase of the amount of firepower leveled in her direction (even if Andi’s half wasn’t loaded she couldn’t have known that any more than Andromeda herself did!)

“Go ahead Penny. Load the chip up in the access terminal over there… we’ll see what’s on it together on the viewscreen.” Generally the terminal in question was loaded with entertainment modules when there was time for such… holodramas and the like, but a chip like the one the woman was holding out to Pan should work as well and project its information out for them to view at their leisure.

“True enough,” he said replying to Autumn whom he never took his eyes off of as though expecting her to grow horns and her hands to turn into plasma cannons not unlike the one Andi was trying to hold. “We’re more of a cuddles with consequences kind of clan. Case and point being myself I suppose. That still doesn’t fully explain why you are here, if you had some kind of proposal why not make it to your mother?”

Pandora felt a wash of superiority over Autumn when she said that Daren and his family weren't huggers. She found Daren incredibly affectionate, not so much with hugs, perhaps, but with his neck squeezes, and frequent stroking and reassuring touches he gave his slaves (the ones that were not attached to walls being tortured, at least, a place she had spent some time herself, too, in the early days). She realised even though they were family, Daren did not know this woman at all, and he was clearly not known to her either, despite all her posturing about knowing him and where he was, and warning them. She knew Daren better. And that felt good.

Her finger twitched when Autumn went for her pocket, wanting to take her out before she could produce a threat, but she was disciplined enough not to have it resting on the trigger directly so she didn't shoot the woman - yet. Pandora even considered throwing herself between Autumn and Daren, smothering whatever it was - bomb, explosive, whatever. She would die but Daren might have a chance to live, and that made it worth it. She looked to Daren, eyes darting to him for as little time as possible to make sure what he wanted her to do, before back on the threat. He seemed not too worried, trusting perhaps that when she said 'data chip' that was really what she meant.

Several heart thumping seconds later, Autumn really did produce what she had said she would, and Pandora found that she could breathe properly again, hearing the same sort of idea from Andi as she drew a deep sighing breath too. They were all alive! And perhaps Autumn was in part responsible for that. If it was true, she would like the woman a lot more than she currently did, for anyone who cared about Daren, and helped her keep him alive, was high in her books.

She looked annoyed to be spoken to like a dog, but after that stressful moment she didn't react, just grateful she hadn't needed to smother a grenade with her body. She looked to Daren for permission, which he gave when asking her to load the chip up, and stepped forward.

She didn't let her guard down, even though she needed to lower her rifle, but being this close she was ready for Autumn should she try to attack her in hand to hand. She didn't, and Pandora reached for the chip from the much taller woman. She smelled good, this close, and Pandora couldn't help scanning her face looking for similarities with Daren. She could see a few features they seemed to share, but she still didn't connect the dots to realise that that was why she had been so attracted to Autumn in the first place.

She scanned the chip for any obvious viruses, or trojans that might hijack their system, and then loaded the chip, stepping back out of the way for the holo to display it, and keeping an eye on their guest, more on the holo for now, though she was very curious what it might show.

Autumn grinned despite herself. It was an interesting expression that showed a flash of teeth behind full lips that curved upwards at the corners in a ‘cat that ate the canary’ expression. One slender eyebrow rose as Pandora approached and took the chip (Autumn simply loved the look of irritation) and she considered actually scratching the woman behind the ear, but given how twitchy she looked judged that she might have pushed her about as far as she should have for now. Well that was alright, if the rest of this meeting went as well as she hoped then she should have plenty more opportunities to tease this one to her own amusement of Plan’s flustering. So instead she let the chip go without too much of a hitch, only making sure that her fingers brushed along Pandora’s wrist and the inside of her hand as the exchange was made in a tiny point of contact as she purred with obvious amusement, “Good girl.”

“Because my Mother simply wants nothing more to do with me, ever,” Autumn continued matter of factly as she turned her head back towards Daren. He was less fun all serious and in control, not at all the ‘scamp’ described by some of the family who dared talk about him. She had expected some kind of rogue… and perhaps the situation was playing into her expectations not being quite met because at the moment she simply reminded him of many of the other members of the family about Daren’s age. “I became annoyed with the meddling of the financial officer she put in place to watch me run my subsidiary and terminated him--- with prejudice; so she disowned me to avoid the scandal… the cunt.”

In point of fact she’d shot the man in the head in the middle of a boardroom for lecturing her on sobriety and personal responsibility in the middle of a meeting with her department heads. It really had been quite enjoyable, they’d all been horrified and too scared to say so much as a word as thin tendrils of smoke had drifted up into the air from the hole in the man’s head. It had been a good morning’s work as far as she was concerned the man was a tool with the imagination of a particularly dull rock. She’d done the whole Cartel a favor. Her mother hadn’t seen it that way of course and after paying everyone off to make sure things didn’t get out of hand she’d fired Autumn and cut her off financially; which to her was the same as exile. She explained all of that to Daren and his…. Crew.. herem… bitch squad...whatever as succinctly as possible.

By that time the images on the chip should’ve begun to pop up, following Pan’s vetting of them, first the image of a massive ship came onto the screen. It was vaguely cylindrical in shape, and bristled with weapons and sensors. As the small group in the room watched the image began to peel the ship down layer by layer revealing the layout and an increasingly complex maze of systems and electronics some of which so convoluted that it would’ve taken a master engineer days to explain it all. They appeared to be the construction and technical plans for a warship.

“Mother is very cross with you, Uncle. She’s had people looking for you… even hired assassins that I understood you kil--,” presently her eyes darted towards Pan again.. Speculatively this time, “but this ship of yours has proven devilishly difficult to track. So this is her solution, she plans to put Robert in command to hunt you down when the construction is finished--- it won’t be terribly long now.”

Daren's family was even more messed up than she'd thought. Not only had his sister tried to kill her own younger brother, but apparently disowned her own daughter, after she'd shot a man in the face in cold blood in front of witnesses. Andi wasn't quite sure who was in the right in this story, but she had a growing suspicion that the answer was "nobody".

Andi felt like she was doing quite well. She hadn't panicked and she was holding her giant gun fairly steadily trained on the woman who was their enemy and apparently their master's niece. And then the terminal began to display plans for what looked like a floating armoured city. A warship, which was apparently going to be given the sole mission on tracking them down and blowing them out of the sky. They wouldn't even feel it as they were vaporised. What hope did they have against that? She felt her hand shaking, head swimming, knew she was too pale. Even Daren wouldn't even be able to keep them alive against that. Had Autumn come to gloat then?
