Xenedria Wildlife
Here you can post your flora and fauna of the Xenedrian planet for others to see and use as they see fit. Feel free to get creative, but no plants or animals can have abilities that would give any advantage to their handlers (because then that's like a freebie power just by saying you have one).

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Dralixx
Origin: Dronovis (a small uninhabited planet that is full of exotic wildlife)
How it came to be on Xenedria: Brought as pets, originally
Unique Traits: They are lean and agile and no more than 2' at the shoulders. Their bodies are covered in fine, soft fur that can sometimes grow into long manes or tufts on tail and legs. Dralixx males are vibrantly colored, where females are often duller. Their wings and tails are often over-sized in comparison to lithe bodies and horns and/or tusks of some sort are not uncommon.
Variations: Dralixx'n, much smaller cousins that are the size of a small house cat and can only survive in captivity.
Where it can be found: In the wild, Dralixx prefer either the rugged terrain of mountains or the lush wildness of forests. They are highly adaptable in captivity.
Extra: Dralixx are territorial in the wild and tend to be very protective and possessive of those they bond to in captivity. If it is available, they are capable of hunting for themselves and require little care other than socializing and nourishment if they are unable to hunt freely.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Lutena
Origin: Originated in the lush forests of Eirhan, brought over with Eridani as they were cherished pets
How it came to be on Xenedria: Introduced
Unique Traits: Seem to leave a trail of their element anywhere they go. They are beautiful creatures who grow up to about three feet at the shoulder and often are very affectionate with their owners. While they cannot weild elements as their Eridani counterparts, they feel most at home surrounded by their element.
Variations: Plant, Air, Water and Fire
Where it can be found: Lei'Rhan and some exotic pet dealers but it is almost impossible to train them unless they've bonded with you
Extra: Lutena choose their owners, bonding with them and they cannot bond with another person. If their bonded dies, they will die shortly after. They will only listen to their bonded and anyone their bonded designates as someone important.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Ixvantii
Origin: Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native to Xenedria
Unique Traits: They are extremely quick as well as are able to fly. They cannot fly super far as they get tired easily when in flight but they can fly and flutter midair beside their owner
Variations:Base coats are always white, Males will be a more vibrant secondary colour while the females will be a more muted secondary colour
Where it can be found: The forests of Xenedria as well as many exotic pet dealers have a few of these little critters
Extra: Ixvantii are loving and cuddly, adoring nothing more than to snuggle up with their owners. They are also exclusively carnivorous, requiring a special diet of different meats. They're only about a foot tall and require very specific conditions to breed. In areas with a large population of Ixvantii, each gives off a certain amount of a special hormone, if there is enough of these hormones present in the air, all of the Ixvantii in the area will suddenly become unable to breed as a way of sustaining their numbers and not overpopulating. However, if there are too few or a lack of the hormone, they will become extremely fertile and seek out as many mates as possible to repopulate the area. This is why most breeders will only ever keep two or three of them at most to keep their animals from becoming infertile. The infertility is not permanent and only lasts as long as the hormone is strong enough in the air. The hormone activates their infertility when there are more than 8 individuals in a specific area. this hormone can also affect what gender the babies will be as males and females have slightly different hormones they give off and if there is more female hormone than male, more males will be born to compensate. A typical litter of Ixvantii is only one or two at a time

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Sasdinxl
Origin: Sasleron, a cold uninhabited planet covered in ice.
How it came to be on Xenedria: Brought as pets, Brought with traders to be bought and sold by exotic traders
Unique Traits: Blue stripes of various hues of blue. This creature is very trainable but is also very fierce much like it’s cousin. It is breedable with his cousins and can withstand extremely cold temperatures.
Variations: Rhodinxl (a mix between a linx in size and the trainability and fierceness of a Rhodesian Ridgeback--Khal has a picture)
Where it can be found: Naturally occurring on Sasleron (most parts of the planet) but have been brought over by traders and slavers to Xenedria and other habitable planets to have as pets.
Extra:
They work well as pets, guard animals, breeders.
This creature is extremely loyal to its owner but can be trained to accept a new owner.
They are protective of those that their owner deems worthy of being protected.
They stand about four foot high at the shoulders and are about as long from nose to tails.
They have sharp claws and teeth and their claws are retractable.
For the most part they get along with other animals.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Havorian Thugbeast "Pixies"
Origin: Uncertain. Widespread distribution of this invasive species makes its true origins difficult; remote mining colony long abandoned thought likely source.
How it came to be on Xenedria: Pixies were introduced to Xenedria they way they are most planets, the creatures stowed away on cargo ships and evaded routine sweeps. Due to their rapid breeding cycle once a mated pair get lose on a planet it's all over.
Unique Traits: Sightless, see by sonar (similar to terrestrial bats), semi-intelligent
Variations: Rumors of an albino variant persist, supposed to bring 'good luck' (in actuality puts off a sent that repels normal Pixies)
Where it can be found: Recycling centers, basements, crawl space and cargo bays of spaceships.
Extra: "Don't let the name those silly humans gave it fool you, these things are monsters!"

The Thugbeast is a plague upon the galaxy. Spreading throughout inhabited space by hitching rides on space going vassals this invasive, scavenger race has been known to consume everything from scrap metal, shipboard components, food edible to every known species, carrion, and even the especially unlucky camper when set upon by a hungry swarm. Standing just under a foot tall at maturity they live for about two years, during which a healthy pair can produce almost a hundred offspring. Able to hide, and being too intelligent to reliably trap, they hide in the shadows of Xenedria society looking for a tasty treat to come their way. The creatures are blind issuing a subaudible shriek (rumor has it that some Ehunean subspecies can hear at close range) that delicate fronds attached to their skulls pick up on to paint a mental image of their surroundings. Despite not being able to see, they do appear to be highly sensitive to light finding it uncomfortable and thus tend to hide most of the time people are about creeping out later to cause mischief.

"Pixies" are cowardly by nature scattering and running from any confrontation but their naturally inquisitive nature and voracious appetites rarely let them stay away for long. Their bite is said to be highly painful and their teeth are capable of chewing metal and electronics which they can (somehow) digest. Pack sizes range from mated pairs up to over a hundred individuals. They have no known predators (unless one can be found on their unknown planet of origin) and are untrainable. Some merchants, farmers, and cargo haulers believe that the musk of an Earth skunk can keep the beasts at bay.

Plant or Animal: Plant
Species Name: Nomad Vine
Origin: Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native. Exact evolution uncertain but its life cycle is similar to ‘tumble weed’
Unique Traits: Seedpod about the size of a softball that begins light enough to be born on wind or water, but then hardens later in the life cycle when ready to seed. When it has reached an optimal location it will take root and bloom with a brilliant photoluminescent purple flower. New seedpods will begin to form provided enough light and water are present forming first as small nodules on the original shell. These will grow over time until their weight breaks them off of the shell to be carried by wind or wave to a new location to begin the cycle again.
Variations: Due to the beauty of the bloom, this species has been bred into a variety of colors from the original purple to various shades of red, pinks, and blues. Green and Yellow strains have proved elusive.
Where it can be found: Often planted purposefully for it’s bloom it is common in small gardens or potted plants. Wild plants can often be found in open areas having been blown there in a storm and taken root.
Extra: Is viewed by some gardeners as a nuisance due to the great amount of soil nutrients it uses during its life cycle and being mildly toxic if consumed by most domesticated animals. Due to the bloom’s beauty however it remains a favorite of young lovers and windowsill pots the planet over. In unsettled areas clusters of them can be occasionally found filling the surrounding area with a breathtaking purple glow after sunset.

Plant or Animal:Animal
Species Name: Gar’dix
Origin: Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native
Unique Traits: Herbivore, domesticated meat animal, docile
Variations: Color variations depending on climate and selective breeding.
Where it can be found: Being raised for slaughter on various ‘factory farms.’
Extra:Widely farmed as a ‘meat animal’ in the temperate parts of Xenedria. Standing at about 5 feet tall at the hip and weighing nearly 800lbs a mature individual can be butchered to supply a great deal of meat profitably. Their hides are usable in a variety of fabrics and a quite effective adhesive can be manufactured from the remains of their hooves and bones. Originally a free ranging herd species they were domesticated when their meat was found to be edible and delicious to several different species making them an ideal food animal. Selective breeding and genetic engineering has made them much more docile than their wild forebearers. Interestingly the meat is described differently by several species with Humans describing it as chewy with a slight ‘gamey’ quality while Okul and Ehuneans generally describe a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Baclor
Origin: Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native; Apex Predator
Unique Traits: Resistant to magical attacks and control; endangered
Variations: Long extinct aquatic variation
Where it can be found: Deep Forests, Lei’rhan
Extra:

A solitary hunter the Baclor inhabits the deeper, less explored regions of the forests shunning areas of heavy settlement. A predator with a particularly large appetite it requires a great deal of meat to survive but it is not picky about the source having been known in lean times to kill and devour others of their own species. A full grown adult stands about fifteen feet tall at the shoulder and can weigh in at close to half a ton of bone, muscle, claw, and scale. Its prefered hunting method is to burrow into the earth and cover its body lightly in loose foliage near streams or highly trafficked feeding grounds; when prey ventures near it explodes out in a frenzy of fury with claws over a foot long capable of shredding almost anything. It’s bite is relatively weak, so it prefers to tear its prey into pieces with its claws prior to consuming-- the sight of one feeding is truly horrifying. Being bitten by one is not advisable however, as that bite is still more that sufficient to drive it’s dozens of sharp teeth through the flesh of known sentient species.

The source of the creatures magical resistance is likely a fairly recent adaptation resulting from exposure to magical energies from the Eridani and has become something of a curse to the creatures. Under the belief that drinking tea made of ground up body parts of the animals conferring some of their immunity to the consumer the creatures have been hunted extensively; the animals are becoming increasingly rare as a result (All studies have concluded that this belief is wrong and no benefits can be derived from such consumption.) The hides of the animals do made quite attractive and durable clothing however and a side market exists in decorative knives made from the claws.

This creature is classified as ‘extremely dangerous’ and should be avoided.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Chr'yax
Origin: Elspath originally, however wild groups have cropped up on other planets due to interplanetary travel as an introduced species, now fairly widely spread.
How it came to be on Xenedria: Brought as pets
Unique Traits: Independent, unhingeable jaw (akin to many serpentine species), two rows of teeth on lower jaws and two sets of incisors on upper jaw that never cease growing - must be ground down either by owner grooming or chewing on dense objects. Vomeronasal organ in roof of mouth with which the Chr'yax 'tastes' the air. Live between 180-200 years. Coat and eye colors range from earth tones to jewel tones with a variety of markings such as speckling, striping, and gradients. As chr'yax age they grow small antler like horns that sweep back against the skull. These antlers are shed every few years and regrown.
Variations: More heavily furred stockier variant often found in colder climates, sleeker furred longer limbed variants found in plains and desert climates.
Where it can be found: Wild on Elspath, through pet dealers. Not wild on Xenedria.
Extra: Chr'yax mate for life and are not exclusively heterosexual, are known for building homosexual emotional connections and refusing to mate. Very difficult to breed in captivity without intervention as they breed infrequently (once every 5 years) and produce small litter sizes (4 or fewer). One-owner loyalty though if sold, traded, or their master dies often bonds fairly quickly with a new handler if all remnants (sight, scent, etc) are consistently kept from them. Originally domesticated as a hunting companion and guard for sa'bian. Highly prized as guard animals. Highly affectionate and communicate with a series of yips and purrs. Omnivores who naturally prey on small ground animals, local flora and larger animals through pack hunting. Not for casual ownership as they can be very difficult to train and destructive if left alone for long stretches of time.

Young are weaned at a year and become mostly self-sufficient by 5 years old. Chr'yax are physically and sexually mature at 10 years old. From floor to shoulder they can grow as tall as 4 feet at the shoulder and are highly dense, weighing in as much as 340lb.

Plant or Animal:Animal (Insect analogs)
Species Name: Burrowers
Origin: (Xenedria or somewhere else?)Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native
Unique Traits: Colony mentality; fast breeding; colony ‘queen’
Variations: Highly evolved caste system with multiple roles within the colony.
-Detector: scout that searches for food and sends out a chemical sent as a danger warning to the colony; resemble small slugs and only much later was it been discovered that they are the same species and part of the colonies.
-Worker: Builds the colony and harvest plants and dead animals and brings back to the colony (most common) Every few hundred Workers an Advanced Worker can be found, which sprays chemical instructions to the other workers and has limited problem solving ability. Also primary breeding partners for the Queen
-Infantry or “soldier”: Second only to the Queen in size this variant comes equipped with burrowing pincers and powerful flesh rending mandibles. Once alerted they are directed by their own Advanced class (also frequent Queen breeding partners) through similar chemical signals. Once a creature has been sprayed with these chemicals the entire colony will descend upon the in a swarm mentality which can result in shock induced death from thousands of bites within minutes.
-Queen: Hidden deep within the earth these Queens grow to six inches long and are capable of producing hundreds of eggs per day in optimal conditions. It is unknown how it selects its mates, but once it breeds with an advanced worker or Infantry variant it will continue to produce eggs producing that strain until it breeds again. Detectors appear to be produced at the rate of once every thousand eggs.
Where it can be found: Common in the tropical and temperate zones of the planet
Extra:

“Burrowers” are a colony creature recognizable by many species. Either because they’d been spread to their worlds as well, or because of their basic similarity to other ‘insectlike’ species. Omnivorous they will eat most any plant or animal matter stripping trees of leaves, wrecking gardens or small plants, rendering small animals to bones within a day or so. Large colonies can contain several miles worth of chambers and tunnels reaching far into the earth and having multiple points of exit into the world. Some even more complex arrangements have been discovered were generations of related Queens have created connected colonies underneath the ground containing dozens of technically separate colonies sharing connected tunnels spanning dozens of miles underground.

Due to their rapid breeding rate, and the difficulty in locating the queen in their extensive tunnels, Burrowers have developed a wide range of resistance to common chemical treatments. The ongoing war between sentient and pest continues naturally with new treatments proposed all the time and some even being marginally successful. Generally the best that can be accomplished is to push them back away from inhabited areas through dogged persistence-- particularly for those that live away from the larger colonies where local urban services might treat for them routinely. There are several small species that eat the creatures, but not in numbers sufficient to affect the overall population.

Plant or Animal: Plant
Species Name: Ska-Firt
Origin: Elspeth
How it came to be on Xenedria: Accidentally introduced
Unique Traits: They can be ground into pastes and applied to open wounds to stop infection, the petals can also be boiled into teas to help with pain though they are nowhere near as effective as modern medicine
Variations: Come in a wide array of beautiful colors
Where it can be found: The forests of Xenedria, specifically in Lei'Rhan and Thundervale, flourishing in natural environments and in greenhouses
Extra: This plant is not at all easy to grow in captivity, preferring to simply be left to themselves to grow and flourish. Their seeds spread through animals and people, settling into an unoccupied lot or even an occupied lot as they can be parasitic if times call for it. If conditions are not ideal for them to grow, they can lie dormant for centuries until conditions are right for them to grow.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Teela
Origin: De'caeli Homeworld
How it came to be on Xenedria: Occasionally brought over as "pets", they're rarely kept inside, so they wander and breed.
Unique Traits: teela instinctively know how to accompany de'caeli's songs.
Variations: Many pale feather colors.
Where it can be found: Leirhan
Extra: They're extremely skittish birds, it can take years of gently singing and/or playing to them to them to gain the trust of a flock, and will at least take months. An individual teela will never sing, and the larger their flock is, the more likely they are to sing with sentient beings. They're similar in size to hummingbirds. Their beaks and talons are quite sharp, and though an attack from one or two wouldn't likely cause any real issues, once one feels threatened the entire flock will come to aide in an attack, and said flocks usually travel in groups of at least fifteen.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Fralrite
Origin: Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native, parasite
Unique Traits: Advanced Regenerative Abilities
Variations: Color variants from blue to pale green
Where it can be found: concentrated in the tropical regions of the planet and shuns the colder climates. Inactive during 'winter' entering a hibernation state by burrowing into trees.
Extra:

The Fralrite is the classic case of good things sometimes coming in horrible packages. A bloodsucking parasite living in the tropical parts of the planet it feeds most often by locating its pray by night. When it finds an appropriate slumbering host it will wrap its tail around an appendage where small barbs will dig into the flesh to prevent easy removal while it inserts a feeding tube into the veins. It's normally vibrant appearance will dull to a brown by the color of the blood it digests (unless the blood eaten is not red then that shading will dominate). Unwary newcomers to those regions might find themselves in a bit of a bother as removing the creatures is surprisingly difficult usually requiring the application of fire without tearing flesh.

Early in the study of the animals, originally targeted for mass extermination, it was discovered they had a remarkable self regenerative ability able to recover in short order from a variety of serious injury. Even nerve and internal organs were able to repair themselves. It did not take long for these scientists to realize the treasure trove they'd uncovered and years of experiments eventually led to some of the medical treatments most now take for granted.

As a result of that history, the awful creatures have vocal protectors when it comes to directly cutting or killing them off. They remain a favorite for scientists for study whenever an exotic new virus or bacteria emerge in order to study how their immune systems neutralize and combat even unknown pathogens.

Where it can be found: Drix plants can be found all over the place as they are like mushrooms

They are hardy species that are able to quickly adapt to any environment. Their main purpose is to break down organic matter and return it back to the land but many species have found certain variations of this plant to be edible and quite delicious when cooked properly.

Some of the main varieties of the Drix plant are the ADdrix and VeDrix which are both popular choices in cuisine. Some of the other variaties include but are not limited to ZeDrix which is highly toxic to anyone who consumes it as well as MiDrix which is a common fungus used in many greenhouses to help other plants grow. There are thousands of varieties but those four are the ones most widely known.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Tli-Vi
Origin: Xenedria
How it came to be on Xenedria: Native
Unique Traits: These little critters have almost perfect camoflage in many wooded areas, travelling in groups of usually 60+ individuals
Variations: They come in very earthy tones and can range from the more dominant ones which are about 8in long to the very submissive ones at 2in
Where it can be found: Forests and fields of Xenedria, seen as pests
Extra: These little critters have a nasty habit of eating everything they find, able to devour fields in mere days if not dealt with immediately. Those who grow food for a living are wary if they see oceans of browns and golds making its way towards their fields and while they are difficult to get rid of, there have been some tried and true methods. Sometimes, the creatures are caught and kept as pets as they can be very cuddly and loving but that only applies to those who are submissive as the more dominant ones have to be killed as they will not take to any kind of training or being kept in captivity. (They will starve themselves) The more submissive ones can be quite docile and friendly, snuggling up with the others in their group, they all tend to follow a single extremely dominant individual. The best way farmers have found to stop an invasion of their crops is to kill the biggest Tli-vi in the group which usually causes the group to scatter without a leader.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: G'rullvax
Origin: Unknown
How it came to be on Xenedria: Accidentally introduced when a ship carrying several young crashed on it's way to a private arena
Unique Traits: Extremely intelligent
Variations: None
Where it can be found: Deep in the wilds
Extra: G'rullvax are rare on every planet that they have been found on, wild or captured. They are extremely territorial and will kill off the young of other G'rullvax to ensure the survival of their own. They are extremely intelligent... eerily so and though they are solitary creatures, they have been known to band together when a larger threat is perceived. This is a rare occurrence as they have no natural predators outside of sentient species.

They are herbivores and keep to themselves, but when threatened they are insanely violent and aggressive and will gore and then literally tear a threat limb from limb with their powerful arms. Though it was tried in the early years, these animals CANNOT be tamed or trained. A very rare few have been captured and used in arenas around the universe to bring in crowds, but even then arena owners quickly realize their mistake as they have often killed their handlers because they are merely 'kept' and not tamed. They are enormous, brutish and hard to kill between their strength and uncanny cunning.

A full grown male is around 5 1/2' at the shoulder and can weigh well over half a ton. Despite being herbivores, they sport huge canines for fighting. Females top out around 4 1/2' at the shoulders, weigh around eight hundred pounds and have canines about half the size of males... but are perhaps even more aggressive than their male counterparts when it comes to defending their young, which are born one at a time about every five years. The rarity of their births and their territorial aggression keep them from over-running any given area.

These animals are classified as EXTREMELY dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

Plant or Animal: Plant
Species Name: Ticou
Origin: Eirhan
How it came to be on Xenedria: Eridani farmers.
Unique Traits: Eaten right off the vine it has quite a pleasant burn, reminiscent of sitting by a warm fire on a cold day.
Variations: N/A
Where it can be found: It's very rare, though it can be found cultivated, usually in Leirhan. Is too finicky to grow wild on Xenedria.
Extra: It's about an inch in radius, and grows on a vine. On Eirhan, it grows wild, steeped in the magic of its homeworld, on Xenedria, it needs fairly specific magic users to cultivate it. It's made into an excellent, very high demand wine that scientists have been trying to synthesize for years to no avail, though they have come up with some interesting new wines that taste nothing like it. It's sometimes referred to as the 'Fire Plant' in common.

Plant or Animal: Animal
Species Name: Tarkal
Origin: Okul Homeworld
How it came to be on Xenedria: Livestock
Unique Traits: extremely fast breeding
Variations: Various colors, often bright and contrasting
Where it can be found: Mostly Kirol
Extra: Tarkal are fast growing, hardy creatures. They don't have much in the way of flavor, really, but they're easy to cultivate, produce more young than extremely amorous rabbits, and can be eaten without much effort inside their fairly soft exoskeleton. Their small size (roughly three feet nose to tail tip fully grown, around two months of age) mean that they're extremely easy to raise and keep under control. They tend to exist in small herds behind okul homes, where the homeowner might throw them a bit of food every now and then to keep them around, then grab one or two at a time for an easy meal.

Plant or Animal: Plant
Species Name: Varnoch
Origin: Elspath
How it came to be on Xenedria: Brought by a spiteful varo.
Unique Traits: Left unchecked, they will choke out entire forests
Variations: N/A
Where it can be found: There is a vague chance of the invasive vines popping up anywhere there is a large number of trees, though anyone who cares for plants is likely to know the vines need to be stopped.
Extra:[/img] Also known as Sa'bians' Bane, these thorny invasive vines start out small, but over time they will grow and steal nutrients from everything around them until they're all that's left. Varo have been known to sometimes spitefully plant these in the forests of sa'bians they don't like.
